Program Description:

This program will help clinical supervisors deepen and broaden their understanding of and skill in navigating relational and cultural issues in supervision.  Drawing on recent supervision literature (Bautista-Biddle, Pereira, & Williams, 2021; ; Bernard, & Goodyear,2019; Chin, Peterson, Nan, & Nicolls, 2014; Loan, Kehdi,  & Ricohermoso-Shaw, 2018) participants will learn feminist and multicultural supervision principles and strategies for managing power and cultural issues within the supervisory relationship as well as issues that emerge for their supervisees as they conduct clinical work (e.g. microaggressions, harassment from clients, countertransference, resistance to discussing cultural issues).  Participants will also be guided to identify self- and community-care resources and supports.

Utilizing self-assessment tools, small and large group discussion, and clinical vignettes, participants will engage with current supervision research ( HaRim Ahn, Yee,Morales Dixon, Kase, Sharma & Hill, 2020; Phillips, Parent,  Dozier, C. & Jackson, 2017). and each other to increase their confidence and competence.  Participants will also be provided with resources (e.g. Deliberate Pratice exercises, readings) to support  their continued work with supervisees as well as their own professional development as supervisors.
